As the welfare city has entered a phase of market-driven urban development, many of the challenges that post-war architects and decision-makers faced are related to our contemporary crises: financial crisis, migration crisis, democratic crisis, housing crisis, health crisis – as well as the climate crisis and COVID-19 pandemic as major new crises.

Through a collage of texts and illustrations from different voices and decades, the book presents central aspects and perspectives from the Danish welfare city's past, present, and future. The book contributes with a critical mapping that invites reflection as well as action in relation to our contemporary and future urban challenges.

The book was published in connection with the festival's examination of *The Welfare City in Transition* in 2020. It is published in collaboration with Arkitektens Forlag.
