Curatorial Statement

For the third consecutive year, we explore how architecture shapes our lives and the world - and how our lives and the world influence architecture. Our ambition is to expand the idea of what architecture is and can be: to unfold architecture as something more than just bricks, spaces, or frames, but as a sensory, bodily, social, political, and human dimension that permeates everywhere in our existence.

Since last year, we have grown in both scope and ambition, and we have programmed more than 150 events that provide a wide range of perspectives on architecture. Through film screenings, exhibitions, lectures, debates, city walks, concerts, and conferences, we have sought to demonstrate the breadth of the architectural field. And once again, we have summoned some of the most innovative minds from home and abroad to explore the diverse world of architecture. Demand for the festival has increased since its inception in 2014, and in 2015, we became the world's largest festival of its kind with our focus on architecture and film. In 2015, we chose to expand activities to Aarhus, and from 2016, we also branched out to Aalborg - both cities, like Copenhagen, with a strong architectural identity. This has created the local festivals Aarhus Architecture Festival (AAFx) and Aalborg Architecture Festival (ALAFx). We have also become part of the pan-European network Future Architecture, and we look forward to showing you the fruits of that collaboration over the next few years.
