x4a_lab and ST:ART present WORMS OF MASS CONSUMPTION. An immersive installation at Sydhavn Theatre, that explores the habitat of mealworms and their ability to digest styrofoam, raising questions about our relationship with consumption, nourishment, and consumerism.
The human-scale worm habitat of WMC captures the motion of the worm, forcing us to travel in the space left behind as we follow the twists and turns of digested tunnels, adapting both physically and symbolically. The installation presents the residual landscape of consumerism, a sea of plastic consumables, and highlights the negative space created by the consumption of our own plastic waste.
Our future depends upon the ability of our species to adapt to a rapidly changing and increasingly extreme environment. The art of living in an ecosystem out of balance demands a collaboration with nature itself, with other species, with new technologies. WMC is an exploration on this theme, how can the mealworms shape us and the spaces we inhabit?
x4a_lab invites you to visit their open lab and exhibition WORMS OF MASS CONSUMPTION to gain insight into their work and experience a reimagining of our relationship with the built environment.
The project is formed in collaboration between x4a_lab, a design laboratory, founded by Architects, Pavels Liepins-Hedström, Elliott Andrew and Magnus Nilsson and ST:ART, a volunteer driven cross-disciplinary platform for artistic development under Sydhavn Theatre. Supported by Sharing Copenhagen m.m.
