For the 2021 edition of Copenhagen Architecture Festival titled Landscapes of Care, we partnered up with research and design hub SPACE10 to deliver Climate Care, a program inviting experts and the public to discuss the position of architecture, design and urban planning as climate sinners, as well as potential climate agents: how can the building industry transition from being a major culprit of climate change to playing a key role in positive environmental transformation?
Currently, it construction is responsible for some of the worst carbon monoxide emissions in the world. As global and local leaders make plans and promise investments for achieving CO2-neutrality in the foreseeable future, urbanization must question its complicity in the destruction biodiverse habitats, the extinction of species, and the irresponsible depletion of our planet’s natural resources. At the same time, architectural and design practices have the potential to nurture and renovate existing landscapes with care, taking responsibility for achieving climate goals and showing care for future generations.
What does an architecture centered around societal and environmental care look like? Which research practices can we adopt to tackle environmental issues? Is architecture ready to face the catastrophic environmental challenges of the future? How do you give concrete materiality to our aspirations for a sustainable city? The Climate Care collection addresses these questions through cross-sectoral conversations between professionals and decision makers that resulted in five podcasts, complemented by six written contributions by expert panelists.
